The Review
Never thought I would say this, but the outgoing diesel is a better SUV
There are very few occasions where you will hear me pushing diesel over petrol anything! however, there is something special about the old 2014 SQ5 that does not to have translated over into the new one...
The SQ5 (new and old) is a well proportioned and sized car for 4-5 adults to ride in a good level of comfort. The quilted style seats, driving position and instruments wrapped around you are pretty good for getting at everything you need. Definitely happy to start the drive.
On paper, the new SQL is slightly slower than the old firebrathing version. And you feel it. Partly because , whilst the newer car has been carefully adjusted to be a more engaging car, you don't really get a sense that while driving. Don't get me wrong, its fast enough and sounds ok enough, but when it comes to driving experience the acceleration and handling are trumped by other on.
I have always liked the looks of the SQ5. Its big, chunky and in black, looks stunning. One thing that bothered me no end though, and almost enough to score style as as 0 is the fake exhausts (if you can call them that) they look like a complete miss in terms of design. Afterthought 101. Everytime I see these, a small part of me is widely upset.
As part of the latest line of S vehicles Audi, this car benefits from all of the usual mod-cons that you would expect. This one had the on screen digital display and a bunch of toys to play with.
For me, this car was a no! same for my partner too. However, this was based on having owned the previous one and knowing how much fun that one was in the right more. This is a car for someone! however, for me, for what I want the car to do and how I want the car to drive, I maybe recommend this one, but drive it first to ensure you like it!
