The Review

General Review Estates BMW 3 Series 3 Series Touring (F31) - (2012) 320d (184 Hp)

Great car

Summary

I wanted a car that could take a road bike in the boot without having to take the wheels off, with all my kit too. Also, had to be easy to fit a Thule on top for more bikes when needed so had to have roof rails. It had to fit a family of four, plus the dog and a truck load of luggage that seems to accompany us everywhere we go. Lasty, it had to be fast, economic and handle well. The 320s ticks all these boxes.

Practicality and Comfort

From the drivers seat everything is within reach, is well laid out and the materials used are all high quality. The iDrive system is easy to use and the navigation system works well. I've always found BMW seats a little firm, but they hold you in place well enough and can be adjusted in just about every way you could want. There is plently room for everyone in the car and nobody is cramped.

Performance and Handling

Not as fast as the 330's and the such, but still a quick car if you put the pedal down. Not much beats it off the lights if that's your thing. The handling is excellent with good grip from the Pirelli's.

Reliability and Running Costs

Reliability after 3 years of ownership has been great, not had a single problem. The mpg is good and helps keep the running cost down. Servicing costs are high, but there's a long interval between services so that does help somewhat.

Looks and Style

Never going to win any beauty contest, but it's attractive enough for an estate car and looks good.

Would I recommend it? YES
