First Rallying experience at the Bill Gwynne Rally School. Worth checking out for sure!
A little while back, I did a short rally experience with the Bill Gwynne Rally School down in Brackley. The car was the Mark 2 Escort from way back when, fully stripped out for the job. Following a briefing, we were out on the dusty road. The experience is very different to road track experiences and you literally need to forget everything you know about road driving (the first thing they tell you). Driving a manual for the first time in a while in tough, and getting used to the gearing, handbrake turning and steering without putting thumbs into the steering wheel, was tough at first, but you get used to it. Its a fun and well taught experience with plenty of instruction from the teachers who are very patient. The car is a classic and although not the fastest, was plenty good for the job as it was necessary to gather much speed, only to get out of the corners with the right technique.
As far as rally cars go, this was set up as you would expect with roll cages and harnesses
Not rated as this was a rally experience
One of the classics but not as good looking as the Impreza I didn't get to drive
It had a steering wheel, gear stick, 2 seats and a race harness. What more do you need?
I recommend the driving experience for anyone that would like to learn the basics in a Rally experience.
