The Review
Courtesy of Wrap Smith, the C63 is now looking totally refreshed with bright yellow detailing
So last week, the C63 S Estate received a bit of a make over, courtesy of 'Wrap Smith' based down in High Wycombe and it looking great. Bright yellow, and noticeable from space, I decided to go for their Sunshine yellow, which was as close as I could get to the stock edition 1 colour scheme. Was I pretending this is a real edition 1? Nah, but I do love the look of the coupe and wanted to stay as close as I could to the standard OEM look and feel. I booked in with the team at Wrap Smith and got a date a couple of weeks out from the booking date, which was all good. Dropped the car off in the morning having agreed on the design, which included a guys called Karl who works with them doing brake painting and other detailing. All done very professionally and the lady I dealt with on the phone always had time for my MANY MANY questions. I went through all kinds of trials and tribulations on arriving at the final design. Don't get me wrong, I knew what I wanted from the start, but when you are 40+ and about to drop a bunch of yellow anywhere on your daily drive, a grown up voice always pops up and asks 'are you sure mate? this is the car you drop the little one off to school sometimes, how about black stripes, or no stripes'. So as with anyone else right now going through a midlife crisis, parked up reading this review from their Boxster S, I totally ignored that voice, said f'it and drove down to the workshop. In terms of the work, I decided to go as far as I could tastefully and get:
- Edition 1 style double (thick/thin) bonnet stripe
- Edition 1 Side stripes
- Edition 1 style mirror stipes
- Half roof stripe covering the rear roof spoiler
- half boot stripe
- Rear badge painted yellow (from red)
- Brake callipers painted yellow (from red)
My last mental debate was whether to add some Alloygator rim protectors in a relatively similar shade of yellow. I bought them and fully intended to fit them. However, in speaking to Karl, who painted my brakes, I was persuaded to give them a miss, due to some challenges he had seen in the past. Lucky pass too as when they had finished all the work, I realised that the rims might have been that step too far (that was my big boy voice in my head talking again).
So with that, at the end of the same day, the car was ready to collect and looking really good! All very nicely fitted, included warranty for any issues and even got a couple of small goodies to take away. All in all a great experience, and a great change to the car.
Hmmm.... but now the interior doesn't match! Stay tuned :)
Yes its my car, but I have to say that the satin grey against the yellow is an amazing combination. yes its very bright, but somehow I believe it still looks very tasteful! Right on the border, yes, but on the right side of it. Could have easily gone too far with the yellow, but I think this is where I stop for the outside. Happy days.
I would say that anyone in West London looking to get their car wrapped or decals or dechroming etc, give the guys at Wrap Smith a call and see what they can do for you.
