Test Drives SUVs Porsche Macan Macan - (2014) GTS 3.0 V6 (360 Hp) DCT 4x4

Blown away by the driveability of this car!

Summary

I have been looking for a replacement to our SQ5 over the last few weeks and decided to revisit the Macan. I drove the S a while back, but don’t recall being overly impressed. It drive well but nothing to really set any pulses racing. So looking at the stats online, I went into the GTS with a little reservation and mild expectations. I went in very very wrong. This is an amazing drivers car in every way and I’m blown away by how well Porsche have translated this SUV into an absolutely great all rounder! How’s

Practicality and Comfort

This is as practical and comfortable as any other family SUV. You sit much lower than most SUVs which is great as I prefer a car like driving position, which is one of the things that let its competitors down. The seats are very supportive and somehow, adjustable in 18 different ways. Very cool! The alcantara on the seats are great and actually do help you stay in place. There is plenty space for regular size people in a directions, although tighter in the back footwell for taller folk. Boot carries 550 litres which is decent for a mid sized SUV. So all the general creature comforts covered for sure. No complaints.

Performance and Handling

Since my Macan S drive, as explained above, I wasn’t expecting much here. But my word, this car is so much fun to drive fast. At no point do you feel like you are driving too fast, cornering too hard or braking too much. It’s so well balanced. I tried to unsettle it as much as you can on a test drive and it didn’t even flinch. Seemed like it wanted more and more. The sound from the quad exhausts is pretty cool too. Racetrack soundtrack with some base thrown in. Really impressed with the drive.

Reliability and Running Costs

Reliability seems like business as usual for Porsche. Everything seemed solid, no rattling or anything else. Running costs sounded reasonable although can’t say for sure about the petrol etc. Servicing is around the £450 mark which is no more than an SQ5 and CO2 is not too high so road tax also stays pretty low overall.

Looks and Style

This car looks mean. Much sharper than any of the other Macan and many other cars on the road. In black with the black 20” RS this is an awesome looking car. Inside and out I love it.

Features

The car has also the usual options you would expect in a car like this. The one I drove had sport but not the better sport plus, pano roof, reverse camera, alcantara trim, Bose and few other features. Not the top spec but well kitted out!

Would I recommend it? YES

From my test drive I got home and started shopping for a black GTS, no joke. I am getting one. Enough said :)
